In the event of a vacancy in the office of the President (owing to removal, death or resignation), the Chief Justice of India, or in his absence, the senior-most judge of the Supreme Court available, shall discharge all the functions of the President under Article 65 of the Constitution until a new president enters upon the office, or until a newly elected vice president begins to act as president under Article 66 of the Constitution.
